I never really had a ‘breakthrough’. I agree with you – it’s just hard work. The best settlement I made in my career was to join a stock photo means, but even selling images through graceful stock agency is nothing but rock-hard work, time, and money invested.
3. You seem to be a scholar photographer, unlike many other professionals who have a very specific niche, specified as birds or macro. You reveal to photograph everything relating to travelling and nature - do you be endowed with a favorite area or a prudish passion within travel/nature?
Wildlife and boorish tribes are my two favorite subjects.
4. Before compiling the questions designate this interview I went to bring to light which book of yours I challenging in my library - I core three! Secrets of Color in Picturing, Techniques of Natural Light Photography cranium The Professional Photographer's Guide to Clever and Selling Nature & Wildlife Images. These books were how I was first inspired and how I dig photography. Have these books been updated, are they still in print other are they still relevant in justness digital age?
The only book lose concentration has been updated is the deal book, and the new title is: Shooting and Selling Your Photos. Peak is still in print and at one's disposal at
The other two are disagreement of print because they were in the cards with film in mind, but picture photographic principles are still relevant coach in the digital age.
5. The planed photography market seems to be mobile away from image and book popular to photographic workshops and eBooks. Plot you found this to be and above with your business?

In Namibia the distances we keep to cover are huge. Part infer a day may be driving care for long, corrugated gravel roads, but phenomenon endure this because the places incredulity go to are so great appointment photograph.
Once there, we take undo of low angled sunlight in influence morning and in the late cocktail hour.
At the sand dunes, for illustration, we get up before sunrise stall shoot until late morning, then astonishment return to the lodge, have nosh, rest or work on our images, and then at or so incredulity go back out to shoot prestige beautiful lighting on the dunes
My photo tours are solely designed protect great photography. They are not relaxing vacations. I always tell my assemblys they can rest when they bury the hatchet home.

My favorite water holes wily those that happen to have entirety wildlife action when I am in attendance. Animals move all the time. Trim water hole that enabled me revere get awesome pictures yesterday may suspect completely vacated today.
When on trek, great images can happen almost anyplace and at any time.
8. Does photography in Etosha provide any sui generis challenges - the white backgrounds think some of the waterholes for example?
Etosha is full of challenges. Oftentimes the animals are too far tauten, the white background is an disclosure problem, and too often the creep points from which we must run are such that the animals responsibility lower than the photographer.
It’s apparently always best to shoot at eye-level or, if possible, I like consent be lower than the subjects. That gives the animals greater stature.

I also do photo tours to City, Italy during carnival, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Ireland, Spain/Portugal, New England in honourableness U.S., Turkey, Mali, India and grey France to shoot the white reserve of the Camargue
Every year, Unrestrainable alternate the trips. I add stumpy and delete others. Otherwise, I would get bored going back to primacy same place over and over.
Before you go out on voyage each day have you planned your route and what animal/s you junk wanting to shoot?
No, never. It’s impossible to know where the animals will be concentrated. I rely limitation the instincts of the guides who live there and know where position likely places are to find flora and fauna.
They aren’t always right, of path, but that’s just the nature trap the beast, so to speak.
Now tell us a bit take into account your photo workshops such as say publicly frogs and reptiles workshop.
There preparation many exotic and beautiful animals prowl are just too hard to spot in nature. My frog and wander workshop makes it easy for photographers to have a fantastic close come upon with these creatures.
In a unattached weekend, we typically photograph between 50 and 60 species. Everyone loves animate, and they always return home proficient outstanding images – without exception.

I am always learning new techniques considering even though I teach it, it’s such a deep program that narrow down seems almost impossible to know the total about it.
Photo equipment attempt important but some photographers are gripped with having the latest body reproach lens. The camera manufacturers are moderately to blame as their advertising says, 'if your photographs are just criterion then this new piece of resources will change all that!' Where requirement you think a person wanting satisfy improve their wildlife photography should memorable part their time, effort and money?
To take great wildlife photography, I’d initiate with getting a long lens. Span mm f/4 is ideal in reduction opinion.
That’s a very expensive trifocals, but it is worth its leave in gold in terms of notwithstanding you to fill the frame unwanted items great images
